Tonsai is Railay's scruffy, laid-back cousin — the climbers' and backpackers' beach, tucked between Railay West and Ao Nang and reached by longtail or a rock scramble at low tide. The sand is rougher and the tide goes right out, so it's more hangout than swim spot. What it has is atmosphere: cheap bungalows, rope swings, reggae bars, and some of the best sport-climbing routes in the country right off the beach. Come for the vibe and the walls, not the sunbathing. Free.
