Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary Krabi (Booking is needed)

One of the established no-riding sanctuaries close to Ao Nang, running half-day care programmes: feeding, preparing food, a mud spa and bathing the elephants, with round-trip hotel transfers. The elephants are rescues and the emphasis is hands-on time done without riding or performing. Groups are kept manageable and the mahouts share each animal's story. It's a paid, pre-booked experience at a couple of thousand baht a head. Book ahead in high season — the popular slots go fast.
